96 validated violent incidents linked to barangay polls -- PNP

BAGUIO CITY, Benguet — The number of violent incidents related to the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections has risen to 96, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Friday. 

Based on the data sent by PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, most of the election-related incidents or 55  cases occurred in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The Davao Region had 14 cases while Eastern Visayas had six.

Thirty five of the incidents were shooting cases, while cases of mauling reached 15,  nine were cases of physical injury, and the rest were light offenses. 

Fajardo reported that 84 of the incidents are currently under investigation, while one was filed in court, the rest were filed in the prosecutor’s office.

Eight cases involved newly-elected officials but Fajardo did not specify how many of them were killed.
