4 newly-elected barangay officials killed a week after polls – PNP

MANILA, Philippines — Four newly-elected officials were killed over a week after the Oct. 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Col. Jean Fajardo, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

The PNP recorded a total of 77 BSKE-related violent incidents, six of which involved newly proclaimed barangay officials,

“As to the status of the victims, four are dead and two are injured,” Fajardo said.

Fajardo added that the six cases consisted of four shooting incidents and one each of stabbing and hacking.

The four who were killed were a barangay councilor in Pasay City,  a barangay captain in the Davao Region, and two barangay councilors the Soccsksargen Region.

Meanwhile, 10 barangay officials were wounded in the Calabarzon Region and Northern Mindanao.

Citing the Nov. 8 data of the PNP, Fajardo reported that most of the validated election-related incidents were recorded in the  following areas:

Meanwhile, 44 remain on the list of suspected election-related violent incidents, while other 176 were non-poll-related.
