Sara cites resilience of Yolanda victims, hails relief workers

MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday said that extreme resilience was exhibited by the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) which whipped and battered parts of the country ten years ago.

“Typhoon Yolanda, left an indelible mark on our hearts, but it also revealed the extraordinary resilience and strength of those who were affected. In the midst of unimaginable destruction, we witnessed the unwavering spirit of Filipinos, who rose above adversity and rebuilt their lives with determination and courage,” said Duterte in a video message on Wednesday.

The Vice President also lauded the frontliners who braved through one of the deadliest natural calamities in history.

“Let us also acknowledge the tireless efforts of our brave first responders, volunteers, and humanitarian organizations who, during those darkest days, worked tirelessly to provide aid, support, and solace to those in need. Their dedication and selflessness were instrumental in helping affected communities rebuild their lives and regain hope for a brighter future,” said Duterte. 

Duterte said that the anniversary serves as a reminder of the importance of risk reduction and climate change mitigation.

She urged Filipinos to be united and remain committed to creating a safer future.
