MANILA, Philippines — A total of 229 metric tons or 86 truckloads of garbage were collected from the Manila North and South cemeteries from October 28 to November 1, the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) said on Thursday.
It said that 50 truckloads, or 134 metric tons, were collected from the Manila North cemetery, while 36 truckloads, or 95 metric tons, were picked up from the Manila South cemetery.
On November 1 alone, MPIO said that 12 truckloads, equivalent to 38 metric tons of garbage, and eight truckloads, or 18 metric tons, were collected from the north and south cemeteries, respectively.
The garbage collected this year was notably less than the waste gathered in 2022.
On Nov. 1 last year, MPIO said the two cemeteries accumulated 62 truckloads, or 148 metric tons, of garbage.
