Woman shot dead in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — Two people were killed in separate incidents in Quezon province on the eve of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE), police said.

Quezon police reported that Aldwin Regodon, 45, was traveling aboard his motorcycle in the island town of Patnanungan around 10 p.m. when two motorcycle-riding males blocked his way.

Without any provocation, the armed riders repeatedly shot Regodon, a fisherman, who died on the spot.

The gunmen fled after the shooting but left their motorcycle at the crime scene.

Investigators recovered eight empty shells and four unfired bullets from a caliber .45 pistol and one empty shell from a caliber 9mm pistol.

Police Captain Nestor Salazar, Patnanungan police chief, said they were still conducting investigation to establish the motive behind the killing.

“We have yet to establish if the killing was election-related. We’re still looking at all angles,” Salazar said in a phone interview.

However, he admitted that the victim was a known supporter of a barangay chairman candidate in the locality.

Police launched a manhunt operation to arrest the assailants.

In Lopez town, Dennis Nas was shot dead at 10:50 p.m. while inside his house in Barangay Rosario.

The police said the suspect, identified as one alias “Melchor,” who was armed with a caliber 9-mm pistol, barged inside the house and shot Nas twice.

The suspect fled after the shooting but was spotted by the victim’s son.

Investigators found out that before the shooting incident, the victim went to the house of the suspect and challenged him to a duel.

The police were conducting further investigation and launched a manhunt operation to arrest the suspect. INQ
