Indie movie to film Oslob’s whale sharks

CHALK up this one as yet another feather to Oslob’s thriving whale shark watching industry.

The crew and actors of the independent movie “Thy Womb” directed by famed indie director Brilliante Mendoza are here in Cebu today to shoot some scenes for the film which will include the famous whale sharks of Oslob, Cebu.

About 95 percent of the movie is shot in Tawi-tawi Julu and stars Bembol Roco and Nora Aunor.

“We needed the scene with the butanding (whale shark) that is why we will have to go to Oslob to take the scene, “ said Mendoza who took a lunch-break at a restaurant in Mabolo, Cebu City.

“It’s one way of showcasing our culture and the things we are proud of like these whale sharks that we could find in Oslob,” he added.

Roco, one of the main actors said the movie is very special for him.

“This is a historical movie since this is the first time that we have a movie shot in Tawi-Tawi with the Badjao people and I will be working with the good director Brillante Mendoza for the first time along with Miss Nora Aunor,” Rocco said.

Mendoza said this movie is “a dream come” true since the protagonists are some of the Philippine movie industry’s big names.

“Most of my films are independent and alternative and usually involve non-professional actors but for the very first time I will be using big time actors like Nora Aunor and Bembol Roco.” Mendoza said.

The movie “Thy Womb” tells the story of a childless couple living in Tawi-tawi. Mendoza said he plans to film a movie shot entirely in Cebu after finishing work on “Thy Womb.” Correspondent Edison delos Angeles
