MANILA, Philippines — A tricycle driver running as village councilor in Masbate City was killed in a shooting incident last October 22, police said on Tuesday.
According to the Masbate Police Provincial Office, 44-year-old Juvy Pintor was shot dead after a commotion ensued between his co-candidates and the group of village chairman candidate Dolores Inopia, at a wake along Purok 2, Barangay Maingaran, around 4:30 p.m.
The groups’ confrontation also left incumbent village chairman Joseph Martinez injured. Pintor was declared dead on arrival at the city’s Provincial Health Office, while Martinez is currently recuperating in a hospital.
Meanwhile, police identified the suspects as Albert Aganan, Bong Bong Aganan, Eddie Badilla, Friday Inopia, Ruel Inopia, Iraq Leo Andaya, Angelo Amaro De Jesus, and Allan Amaro, who were armed with guns that were allegedly used to shoot the victims.
Following the incident, the Masbate City Police Station responding team launched a hot pursuit operation to track the suspects.
