2 dead in van-tricycle collision in Isabela town

CORDON, Isabela — An 81-year-old woman and her 16-year-old granddaughter died instantly when a private van rammed a tricycle at the national road on Saturday afternoon, October 21, in Capirpiriwan village here.

Cordon deputy police chief Capt. William Lugo on Sunday identified the fatalities as Maxima Bohol and her granddaughter Roda Nood.

Lugo said in a statement that the tricycle was on its way to the southern part of the road when the van slammed onto the tricycle at around 3 p.m.

The heavy impact of the collision caused the van and the tricycle to move along the road for more than 10 meters and then slam onto an electric post.

Roda’s brother Randy, 25, the tricycle driver, was wounded and is in a critical condition, Lugo said.

Van driver Joel Lumbian, 41 and resident of Mountain Province, surrendered to the police.

Lumbian was charged for double homicide and serious physical injuries and damage to property.
