MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday destroyed almost P6 billion worth of illegal drugs in Cavite.

PDEA said the illicit drugs were seized during separate operations nationwide and included nearly 313 kilograms of marijuana, 274 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” that were intercepted at the Manila International Container Port last October 6, and 208 kilograms of Dimethyl Sulfone, a chemical used to produce shabu, recovered by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Mabalacat, Pampanga last August 25.

The contrabands were destroyed through thermal decomposition, otherwise known as thermolysis, at the facility of Integrated Waste Management Inc. in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City.

“The destroyed stockpile of illegal drugs had a total weight of 1,019,204.7581 grams. Majority of the illegal drugs destroyed were 471,478.0639 grams of shabu, 312,993.9424 grams of marijuana, and 208,909.00 grams of Dimethyl Sulfone,” PDEA said in a statement.

PDEA added that the total estimated value of the destroyed illicit drugs is P5,968,744,462.

“All dangerous drugs were completely decomposed or broken down and are impossible to reconstitute,” the agency stressed.
