Robbers make off with valuables, urn

SO-CALLED “Bukas Kotse (open car)” burglars got more than valuables from a sports utility vehicle (SUV) parked in a commercial establishment in A.S. Fortuna, barangay Banilad, Mandaue City last Saturday afternoon.

Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, Mandaue City police chief, said the robbers also took away an urn containing the ashes of a loved one from 54-year-old motorist Eulalia Uy, a native of Consolacion town.

Taken from the vehicle were one HP laptop worth P35,000, one camera worth P22,000 an d an urn carrying the ashes of Uy’s father with a picture frame.

Gillamac said the vehicle had no scratches and gave no signs of forced entry.

He said it’s likely the suspects used false keys. Uy parked her vehicle at the establishment to buy something and returned to see her SUV’s door at the passenger side opened.

Gillamac said witnesses spotted vehicles parked in between the victim’s vehicle a few minutes after Uy parked.

After the incident the vehicles all went out of the parking lot immediately.

He said a female served as a lookout using an umbrella to cover his identity while another used the false key in opening Uy’s vehicle.

Gillamac said they will check if the robbery was covered by a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera.

They will also invite employees to help identify the suspects and create  facial composites for them. Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
