A RESOLUTION was passed by the Cebu City Council requiring a random inspection of all materials delivered for the city’s infrastructure projects.
The resolution authored by Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias tasks the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to submit a report on the inspection and inventory of all materials to the City Council.
Cabarrubias, an engineer who chairs the council’s infrastructure committee, pushed for random testing following the discovery of several substandard materials at the stockyard of the South Road Properties (SRP).
The councilor also noted the surplus of materials in the SRP stockyard, a number of which have not been used since 2003.
The council approved a P42.8 million budget for flood prevention projects in the city’s barangays.
The projects consist of drainage projects in some of the barangays, riverbank protections and dredging operation.
About P13.1 million was allocated for the dredging of Bulacao river from the SRP coastline to F. Jaca St, in barangay Inayawan.
The budget includes the demolition of structures placed at P626,000 and P12.1 million for the dredging of creeks.
The P12.1 million will include the amount for the equipments to be used and labor.
About P9.9 million will be spent for the construction of the riverbank protection along Bulacao river coastline.
The river bank protection will be made of of stone masonry with rubble conrete fill.
Dredging operations costing P7 million will commence at the T. Padilla creek from the trunk of Tejero creek to T-Padilla to Imus Road.
A gabion slope at the Brgy Kamputhaw will also be built on a P1.3 million budget. /Correspondent Fatrick Tabada
