MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 3.9 earthquake was recorded in Davao del Sur late Tuesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Based on the agency’s earthquake information, the grounded motion was detected in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur at 10:04 p.m.
Phivolcs indicated that the earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a 16-kilometer depth of focus.
The agency also reported instrumental intensities in the following areas:
- Intensity III – Matanao, Davao del Sur
- Intensity II – Magsaysay in Davao del Sur, and Tupi in South Cotabato
- Intensity I – Tantangan in South Cotabato, and Columbio in Sultan Kudarat
In a previous interview with INQUIRER.net, Phivolcs Science Research Analyst Lara Guianan explained that instrumental intensity is the quake’s strength as measured by an intensity meter or scale.
The agency noted that they are not expecting damage or aftershocks from the earthquake.
