MANILA, Philippines — The trough or extension of the low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) will bring overcast skies, rain showers and thunderstorms to parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, the state weather bureau said on Monday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its Monday morning reported that as of 3:00 a.m., the LPA was spotted some 1,415 kilometers (km) east of Eastern Visayas.
“Kasalukuyan makikita niyo ang mga kaulapan na ito ay mula sa trough o extension nitong LPA kaya ngayong araw ‘yung Central at Eastern Visayas, kasama ang malaking bahagi ng Mindanao makararanas po ng medyo maulap na kalangitan na mas malaki ang tyansa ng mga pag-ulan, pagkidlat, pagkulog,” said Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina.
(These clouds are due to the trough or extension of this LPA. Hence, today, Central and Eastern Visayas, along with a large part of Mindanao, will have partly cloudy skies with a higher chance of rain, lightning, and thunder.)
Badrina added that the LPA may enter PAR within the next 24 to 48 hours, but its chance of developing into a typhoon remains slim.
Fair elsewhere
Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, will have generally fair weather in the morning.
Isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms are possible, however, in the afternoon and evening.
No gale warning is inn effect over any of the archipelago’s seaboards, Pagasa said.
Storm update
Meanwhile, Severe Tropical Storm Bolaven remains outside of PAR and is not seen to directly impact the country’s weather conditions, said Pagasa.
It was last spotted some 2,830 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas and will unlikely enter PAR.
