MANILA, Philippines — Marikina Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo is still a member of the Liberal Party (LP) even if her defense of Vice President Sara Duterte’s confidential funds and the Maharlika Investment Fund is against the party’s collective position.
This was the unanimous decision reached by the LP management committee and some district representatives during a special meeting on Friday.
Quimbo is vice chair of the House appropriations panel.
Liberal Party and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman said the consensus was that Quimbo “is still a member of the LP and that no sanction will be imposed on her.”
“The enduring tradition of the Liberal Party is to allow its members to take independent views on national issues in recognition of a member’s freedom of expression and dissent,” Lagman said on Saturday.
