Peñalosa Jr. knocks out Jimenez in fourth round

Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. defeated Jeffrey Jimenez by fourth-round  knockout in the main event of the Dugong Kampeon Card Saturday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Peñalosa, who had blood dripping from his left eyebrow off an accidental collision in the first round, fired a sneaky left to the side of Jimenez in the fourth. That punch sent Jimenez to his knees, grimacing in pain, prompting the referee to  stop the fight at the 0:58 of the round.

Peñalosa improved his record to 5-0 (win-loss) with all his victories coming by way of knockouts. Jimenez was applauded for his efforts but he slipped to 5-9-2 (win-loss-draw) with 3 KOs.

In the supporting main event, southpaw Marvin Mabait used a lightning left straight to knock down Aljun Salogaol in the seventh round.

FEATURED STORIES

Salogaol got up but received a brutal volley, prompting the referee to stop the fight at the 1:07 mark of the round.

Both boxers started tentatively but Mabait slowly built his lead on pinpoint punches.

Sonny Katiangdagho, meanwhile, won by second round TKO over Johnjier Torbiso.

A series of solid hooks to the body and head sent Torbiso down. He got up but could not continue. Official time of stoppage was at the 1:50 mark of the second round.

Junie Salogaol and John Edu Torbiso fought to a split draw after four rounds. The scores were 39-37 for Torbiso, 39-37 Salogaol and 38-38.

Jaime Bermiso and Renren Tesorio engaged in a draining four-round brawl that was scored a majority draw. But an exhausted Tesorio was attended to by medical personnel at ringside after the fight. The scorecards read 39-38 for Bermiso and two judges had it 38-38.

Junriel Jimenez, Rexel Tabogon and Allan Refuela were the winners in the three amateur bouts that opened the event.
