Family of boat owner wants to reuse boat in fatal collision in WPS — PCG

MANILA, Philippines — The family of the boat owner wants to reuse the fishing boat involved in the fatal collision with a commercial ship in the West Philippine Sea, Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Rear Admiral Armand Balilo said on Friday.

On Monday, three crew members of FFB Dearyn were killed, while one sustained minor injuries following the collision of their boat with Pacific Anna, a crude oil tanker registered under the Marshall Islands, some 85 nautical miles (NM) northwest of Scarborough Shoal, also locally known as Bajo de Masinloc and Panatag Shoal or 180 NM from Agno, Pangasinan.

The PCG will tow FFB Dearyn, which will be preserved for investigation, Balilo told reporters.

Balilo said the PCG “will be sending two multi-role response vessels for towing operations.”

“Request din ng family nung boat owner baka pwedeng pang magamit uli,” he added.

(The family of the boat owner requested if the boat could be reused again.)
