Palace to gov’t agencies, LGUs: Support ‘Elderly Filipino Week’

Palace tells all government agencies and local government units to support Elderly Filipino Week

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has directed all national government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to support activities in line with the “Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino” (Elderly Filipino Week).

Elderly Filipino Week is held every first week of October, as mandated by Proclamation No. 470-1994, in a bid to promote the rights and welfare of senior citizens.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin issued Memorandum Circular No. 34 on September 29, designating the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) to lead activities for the Elderly Filipino Week.

“All [national government agencies] and instrumentalities, including GOCCS (government-owned and controlled corporations), GFIS (government financial institutions), and SUCs (state universities and colleges) are hereby directed, and all LGUs are hereby encouraged to extend full support for and cooperation with the NCSC in the conduct of relevant activities and programs for senior citizens during the annual celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week,” the memorandum states.

The Palace said funding for activities in celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week should come from the current appropriations of the agencies.
