MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday said it will help the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) by fielding its own personnel who will go after motorists illegally using the Edsa bus lane.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II made the announcement after a taxi impeded the bus lane’s flow of traffic last September 23 due ti rising floodwaters in front of Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

Mendoza said he also ordered the LTO-National Capital Region to identify the driver of the taxi.

“Nagiging bisyo na ng ilang mga abusadong motorista ang paggamit ng Edsa Bus Carousel. We recognize the limited manpower of the MMDA to strictly enforce and while the LTO has the same problem, we will tap some of our enforcers to reinforce our brothers in the MMDA in keeping an eye on the Edsa Bus Carousel,” said Mendoza.

“Tinitiyak din natin ang agarang aksyon ng inyong LTO upang maparusahan ang mga mahuhuling motorista na gagamit ng EDSA Bus Carousel,” he added.

(We also assure the immediate action of the LTO to punish motorists who will use the EDSA Bus Carousel.)

The MMDA has repeatedly warned motorists that no private vehicles should use the EDSA Bus Carousel lane or the innermost EDSA lanes reserved for city buses and vehicles used for emergency response like ambulance, fire trucks and police cars.
