THE SOUTHWESTERN University Lady Cobras, fresh of their title win in the Prisaa nationals, leave for Manila today to prepare for their first game in 9th Shakey’s V-League.
The three-time Cesafi champions has been clustered in group A along with Ateneo, Far Eastern University, National University and Perpetual Help.
SWU will see action on Tuesday, 2 p.m., against the FEU Lady Tamaraws.
Meanwhile, the San Sebastian Lady Stags showed tremendous fighting spirit as they bucked a first-set loss to defeat title contenders Adamson University, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21, for its second consecutive win late Thurday at the Arena in San Juan.
As usual, Thai Jeng Bualee played superbly as she teamed up with Joy Benito and Dafna Robinos to down the two-time champions Lady Falcons.
Bualee, the former four-time MVP who fired 24 hits to power SSC past Letran in last week’s opener, pummeled Adamson’s net defense with her power game, finishing with an impressive 28-kill performance for a 29-point output.
Benito backed her up with 14 spikes and wound up with 15 markers while Robinos came away with five blocks to underscore the team’s solid defense upfront.
With a 2-0 (win-loss) card, SSC, which last won in the second conference of the 2008 season, moved closer to the quarters in the short, single round elimination round among 10 teams divided into two groups. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
