MANILA, Philippines — Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Friday.
Its weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said in their morning weather forecast that these are due to the presence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in the areas.
“May tiyansa pa rin po ng mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at thunderstorms sa Bicol Region at Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) dahil sa epekto ng Intertropical Convergence Zone o ITCZ,” he stated.
(There are still chances of scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Bicol Region and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) because of the Intertropical Convergence Zone.)
“Dahil sa epekto ng ITCZ, malaking bahagi ng Visayas at Mindanao ay makararanas ng maulap na papawirin na may kasamang kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at thunderstorms,” he added.
(Because of the effects of ITCZ, large portions of Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.)
Meanwhile, the bureau noted that the remaining parts of Luzon may expect good and fair weather with chances of isolated rains.
“Itong nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon, kasama ang Metro Manila, ay magiging maganda at maaliwalas ang panahon — maliban na lang po sa mga isolated na pag-ulan dulot ng thunderstorm,” he said.
(These remaining parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have good and fair weather — only with chances of isolated rains due to thunderstorms.)
According to Pagasa, hot weather will prevail in Metro Manila, with temperatures reaching up to 33 degree celsius.
Aurelio also reported that the cloud cluster they monitor in the eastern area of the country may develop into a low pressure area.
“Yung binabantayan nating kumpulan ng kaulapan sa bandang east ng ating bansa, sa bandang Dagat-Pasipiko, ay may posibilidad na mabuong low pressure area,” he said.
(This cloud cluster that we are monitoring in the eastern area of the country, in the Pacific Ocean, has a possibility of developing into a low pressure area.)
No gale warning was raised by the bureau and it is safe to sail in any part of the country.
