DOJ prosecutors recommends sex trafficking raps vs 'Socorro cult' members

MANILA, Philippines–Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Tuesday said over 10 individuals from the so-called Socorro cult have already been recommended for prosecution for sex trafficking.

Remulla said there is already a resolution on the case, as the complaint was filed last June.

“May mahigit sampung tao recommended for prosecution dito sa Socorro Cult na kasama sa ibinunyag ni Sen. Hontiveros. They are the same people na nabanggit sa news reports at nabanggit din sa privilege speech ni Sen. Hontiveros,” Remulla said at a press conference.

He said is either already filed in court or already up for filing.

Based on the privileged speech of Sen. Hontiveros, the alleged cult in Surigao del Norte has been preying on minors in the province.

Remulla added that he also tapped the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the latest allegation against this cult.
