MANILA, Philippines — Almost 700 members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have been screened for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) police force recruitment process, according to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In a statement on Thursday, the DILG said a total of 693 MNLF and MILF applicants recently began the screening process — 44 of which underwent physical agility tests, while 649 took psychological and psychiatric exams.

It added that the recruitment was based on the National Police Commission Resolution No. 2023-0380, which approved the recommendation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to allocate 400 slots in its recruitment to former members of the MILF and MNLF.

“The entry of MILF and MNLF former members in the PNP is covered by Republic Act 11054 or the Organic Law for BARMM, which was enacted after the signing of a peace agreement between the government and the MILF,” the DILG explained.

Last August 11, 102 members of MILF and MNLF passed the first batch of BARMM police force recruitment process and took their oath as new police officers. Of that figure, 52 were from MILF and 50 from MNLF.

The PNP said the new members came from the 7,145 initial applicants who passed the Special Qualifying Eligibility Examination conducted in Cotabato and Lamitan last May 29.
