MANILA, Philippines — Officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday discussed road safety plans for the ongoing Technical Cooperation Project (TCP) with the officials of the Embassy of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
“Numerous roads in the mountainous areas of the Philippines become impassable each year as a result of large-scale road disasters and landslides caused by strong typhoons and earthquakes. This project is relevant and timely as this has given way for us to address the needs of the country in infrastructure management,” said DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain said in a statement released Thursday.

Wednesday’s meeting was the third, while the second meeting was held in February. The project will have four outputs: permanent countermeasure works, emergency response, capability enhancement on hazard mapping, and road disaster information management.
Three regions were selected for the hazard mapping project, which are the Cordillera Administrative Region, Region 7 – Central Visayas, and Region 11 – Davao Region.

The TCP will also include hazard evaluation and seminars in its targeted goals for the infrastructure department.
