Militiaman killed

DAVAO DEL SUR—A militiaman was killed while another was wounded in a clash with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who stormed a militia outpost in Barangay Bacungan in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, on Wednesday, police said yesterday.

Chief Insp. Robert Caraoa, Magsaysay police chief, identified the slain militiaman as Leonardo Cainglet. The wounded militiaman was identified as Jonito Ubas.

Caraoa said prior to the attack, residents had reported the presence of at least 60 NPA rebels under Commander Jasmin of Front 53.

He said before sunset on Wednesday, an undetermined number of rebels aboard a cargo truck raided the the militia outpost.

Caraoa said militiamen, led by Sgt. Valjun Mumbay of the 27th Infantry Battalion, stood their ground. Orlando B. Dinoy, Inquirer Mindanao
