MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) on Tuesday warned the public to beware of the increasing number of gaming sites illegally using state gaming firm’s logo.
In a statement, Pagcor Chairman Alejandro H. Tengco enjoined the public to be extra cautious when accessing dubious sites that “pose risks to your personal and financial information.”
“So far, we have been able to shut down most of these illicit websites, but some of them are able to immediately create new ones, so we really need the public’s cooperation and vigilance to help us weed out these scammers,” he said.
The results from Pagcor’s investigation on these suspicious websites were already turned over to the Philippine National Police, the Department of Information and Communication Technology, and the National Bureau of Investigation, he added.
Tengco said Pagcor is currently in talks with law enforcement agencies and electronic payment service providers to explore the possibility of blocking transactions with unregistered gambling sites, which was effective in the United States and Singapore.
“Another option is to create a landing site to redirect bettors to a website that will warn them about illegal sites that they are accessing,” Tengco explained.
Pagcor also encouraged the public to report any unauthorized use of its logo.
