OES: Resigned DOF undersecretary unsupportive of gov’t programs

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) on Friday explained that Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno, who resigned on Thursday, was unsupportive of the programs of President Ferdinand “Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.’s administration.

“The termination of her appointment could only be expected as she clearly does not support the administration and its programs for nation-building. While we support anyone’s right to free speech, it would be counter intuitive to have someone be part of the administration who was clearly set on maligning it to begin with,” said the OES in a statement published by the Presidential Communications Office.

Magno earlier confirmed her resignation to INQUIRER.net, but did not provide details.

The OES said that Magno’s views on social media were a contributing factor.

“She has been against the policies of this administration and made it known to the public on social media long before the President even assumed office. Instead of working together with colleagues in the government to address any concerns, they were instead constantly done so through public fora,” said the OES.

Magno had posted a cryptic message on Facebook prior to the OES’ confirmation of her termination.

“A wise man told me, if you do your job with integrity, you will be back in UPSE (University of the Philippine School of Economics) soon,” she said.
