Cebu City Councilor Raul Alcoseba will register as a voter of Carcar City in the 1st district of Cebu today.

His registration is a preparation for his plans to run as a Provincial Board member under the Liberal Party of Hilario “Junjun” Davide III in next year’s election.

“I have talked with Junjun and nalipay siya nga mo dagan ko kay at least naa nay from Carcar nga modagan (I have talked with Junjun and he’s happy that there’s someone who’ll run at least from Carcar),” said Alcoseba, who is now on his third term as Cebu City Councilor.

Alcoseba’s move came after the recent transfer of voter’s registration of Cebu City Councilor Augustus “Jun” Pe Jr. from barangay Capitol Site in the north district of Cebu City to barangay Guadalupe in the city’s south district.

Councilor Pe, who is on his third term as councilor in the north district, plans to run as councilor in the south district in next year’s elections.

Alcoseba said the first district have long been dominated by candidates from Talisay City, which is the biggest local government unit in the first district.

He said he would first pay a courtesy call to his cousin, Carcar City Vice Mayor Patrick Barcenas, before he would proceed to register as a Carcar City voter.

Alcoseba said he was born in Poblacion I in Carcar City and continues to keep their ancestral home located in Luan Luan Street.

But he grew up and now resides near the Rama Compound in barangay Basak San Nicolas in Cebu City.

Alcoseba also said he was uncertain if there would be a need to resign from the City Council with his transfer of election registration.

“If he would resign, then it would make Jun Pe look bad,” said Alcoseba in Cebuano.

He, however, said that he was prepared to quit his post if the Commission on Elections would ask him.

Rep. Tomas Osmeña (Cebu City south) and Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan leader said he was supporting Alcoseba’s move.

Osmeña said if Alcoseba would resign, BO-PK could recommend his replacements such as councilor Gerry Carillo and former SK Federation chairperson Rengelle Pelayo.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, for his part, said he wished Alcoseba well.

He said while he opposed Pe’s voter’s registration transfer, Alcoseba’s move was a different case.

“He (Alcoseba) is just going back to his roots,” the mayor said. /Correspondent Edison A. delos
