MANILA, Philippines — The Senate on Monday adopted a resolution expressing the chamber’s sympathy and condolences on the death of veteran broadcaster Mike Enriquez.
Proposed Senate Resolution (SR) No. 770 was adopted in a plenary session, taking into consideration resolutions number 774, 775, and 781.
Enriquez died on August 29, 2023 at the age of 71.
“Enriquez’ passing is a great loss to the Filipino nation, as well as the journalism profession and broadcasting industry, which are currently under siege from disinformation, fake news and other adverse impacts of the digital media age,” the resolution states.
“His sterling career, outstanding body of work, professionalism and unassailable integrity should serve as inspiration for budding mass media practitioners and the younger generation to pursue excellence and hone their craft with purpose and passion,” it adds.
All members of the Senate were made co-authors and co-sponsors of SRN 770.
