MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the President pooled P200 million in cash assistance to the Philippine Orthopedic Center (POC) as part of its commitment to prioritize the health sector in the country, Malacañang said Wednesday.
With the donation, the POC can now accommodate more than 600 patients daily in compliance with the the Universal Healthcare Law, according to a statement released by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
In the same statement, POC Medical Center Chief Dr. Jose Pujalte Jr. said the financial assistance would sustain the operations of the country’s prime orthopedic center, which has been operational since the ’40s.
“To achieve true universal health care, we need the confluence of a leader’s vision, the dedication and expertise of the health workers, and wherewithal,” Pujalte said.
“For the Filipino orthopedic sick, injured, and crippled: this moment has arrived,” he added.
Pujalte said the cash assistance would also allow the POC to modernize its hospital by procuring state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
According to Pujalte, the assistance shows the commitment of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to uphold the welfare of orthopedic patients, as promised during his second State of the Nation Address.
