Manila Water intensifies desludging operations for September

Manila Water’s desludging trucks will be present in 65 barangays from nine cities and five municipalities within its service area in September. Customers from these barangays can coordinate with their respective barangay councils or call the Manila Water Consumer Desk Hotline 1627 for exact schedule of the visit of Manila Water’s desludging caravan in their area.

MANILA, Philippines — For the month of September, more villages (barangays) in the East Zone water concession area will be provided with desludging services by Manila Water at no additional cost, as part of the company’s intensified desludging program.

Manila Water’s desludging trucks will be present in 65 barangays from nine cities and five municipalities within its service area.

Residents of Barangays 764, 765, 767, 769, 775, 776, 778, 790, 791, 796, 798, 877, 878, 879, 880, 895 and 900 in the City of Manila can coordinate with their respective barangay councils or call the Manila Water Consumer Desk Hotline 1627 for exact schedule of the visit of Manila Water’s desludging caravan in their area, as well as customers from Barangay Bangkal, CEMBO, Guadalupe Viejo, and Kasilawan in Makati City; Harapin ang Bukas, Barangka Ibaba, Barangka Ilaya, Barangka Itaas, Malamig, Pleasant Hills, San Jose, and Vergara in Mandaluyong City; E. Rodriguez, East Kamias, Krus na Ligas, Pinagkaisahan, Roxas, Sauyo, Silangan, Tandang Sora, UP Campus, and West Kamias in Quezon City; Batis, Kabayanan, Salapan, Batis, and Corazon de Jesus in San Juan City; Bagong Ilog and San Jose in Pasig City, Marikina Heights in Marikina City; and Ususan in Taguig City.

In Rizal, the desludging caravan will also be present in Barangay Beverly Hills, Mambugan, Inarawan, San Juan, and Muntindilaw in Antipolo City; San Isidro, San Juan, and Santo Domingo in Cainta; Burgos, San Isidro, and San Jose in Montalban; Bilibiran, Batingan and Calumpang in Binangonan; San Isidro and Mahabang Parang in Angono; and Dolores in Taytay.

With regular desludging of household septic tanks, customers are assured that the wastewater hauled is properly treated in Manila Water’s septage treatment plants before being discharged to major water bodies and thus become safe for aquatic life. Manila Water is also compliant of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Administrative Order (DAO) 2016-08 that included new parameters in biological nutrient removal (BNR) on nitrogen and phosphorus.

Wastewater treatment plays a huge part in fulfilling the goals set by Manila Water for environmental protection in its Sustainability Agenda. The Company’s Sustainability Agenda was developed not only to comply with regulatory policies and obligations but also to contribute to the achievement of the 17 Sustainability Development Goals (SGDs) set by the United Nations.

“Several studies conducted on the relation of water and SDGs have mentioned that proper treatment of wastewater can contribute to achieving 11 out of 17 SGDs. It is mainly related to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 14: Life Below Water, but it can also bring positive impact to other SDGs not directly related to water such as SGD 7: Affordable and Clean Energy with the production of biogas from wastewater treatment plants and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through the improvement of air quality by odor reduction from lack and inadequate treatment process,” says Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director.
