MANILA, Philippines — The dismissed police officer who pulled out and cocked a gun at a cyclist during a traffic confrontation in Quezon City was absent from the hearing called Land Transportation Office.
Wilfredo Gonzales did not appear even if he was summoned by the government agency that is investigating the case.
The hearing stems from a show cause order LTO issued for Gonzales.
Its officials also directed the dismissed cop to submit a notarized affidavit on why he should not be held liable for multiple offenses.
These violations include disregarding traffic sign, reckless driving and obstruction of traffic.
Gonzales was represented by his son in the probe.
His son surrendered Gonzales’ license and a separate notarized affidavit, as well as a Deed of Sale stating that he had already purchased Gonzales’ vehicle that figured in the incident.
With the non-appearance of Gonzales in the proceeding, LTO considered the subject to be up for resolution.
“Mr. Gonzales did not submit an affidavit so we take it as a waiver on their part and we will decide on the matter based on the pieces of evidence we have,” said LTO-NCR Assistant Regional Director Hanzley Lim.
The maximum penalty for Gonzales’ traffic violations is permanent revocation of his driver’s license.
He is also facing a complaint for alarm and scandal.
The driver had been stripped of his gun’s license.
