LTO to unwrap 4 traffic offenses vs summoned retired cop Wilfredo Gonzales
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday issued a show cause order against the retired policeman who was caught on video pulling out and cocking a gun at a cyclist during an altercation in Quezon City.
According to LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II in a statement, the former police officer, identified as Wilfredo Gonzales, currently faces four traffic violations — Disregarding Traffic Sign (under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01); Obstruction of Traffic, Reckless Driving, and Improper Person to Operate a Vehicle, all under Republic Act 4136.
Gonzales was ordered to appear before LTO investigators on Thursday, August 31, and was directed to provide a notarized affidavit on why he should not be held liable for at least four offenses.
Mendoza explained that failure to appear and submit a notarized affidavit waives his right to be heard and allows LTO to resolve the case administratively based on available documents and records.
“Natanggap na ni Mr. Gonzales ang show cause order at inaasahan natin ang kanyang kooperasyon tungkol dito. Makakaasa ang taumbayan ng patas at mabilis na aksyon ng inyong LTO tungkol dito,” said Mendoza.
