MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Taguig on Thursday distributed birthday cash gifts to more than 270 senior citizens in 10 “embo” barangays formerly under Makati City.

The Supreme Court recently ruled that Taguig City has the rightful jurisdiction of Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation, which includes the “Embo” barangays.

In a statement, Taguig City said the senior citizens received cash gifts ranging from P3,000 to P10,000 depending on their age bracket. The city government followed this scheme:

  • 60 to 69 years old – P3,000
  • 70 to 79 years old – P4,000
  • 80 to 89 years old – 5,000
  • 90 to 99 years old – P10,000

The city government added that it had to manually identify senior citizens in the “Embo” barangays due to the “lack of proper turnover of senior citizen database” following the territorial dispute with Makati City.

“Taguig also opened a one-stop shop volunteer center along Sampaguita Street in Barangay Pembo where those who are not included in the initial list of senior citizen beneficiaries can go and have themselves listed and verified for their birthday cash gift,” it added.
