LUCENA CITY — Three motorcycle riders died in road mishaps on Monday and Tuesday in Quezon province.

The Quezon police reported on Wednesday, Aug. 30, that Ritchie Bodis, 25, was traveling on his motorcycle when he hit the handlebar of another motorcycle that he overtook along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Viñas in Calauag town around 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

Bodis turned around to help the rider whose motorcycle slid on the road but they were hit by an oncoming passenger bus driven by Marlon Soriano.

The motorcyclists, both without crash helmets, suffered injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment, but Bodis died on the way.

The bus driver remained under police custody as the investigation was ongoing.

In Buenavista town, two teens died around 3:30 a.m. on Monday when the motorcycle they were riding crashed into an electric post in Barangay Bagong Silang.

Investigators reported that while motorcycle driver Ralp Lawrence Rabi, 19, with back-rider, Rey Toque, 18, were traveling along the provincial road, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle.

The wayward motorcycle hit the electric post on the right shoulder of the road.

Both riders suffered grave head and body injuries and Toque died on the spot. Rabi was taken to Magsaysay Memorial District Hospital in neighboring Lopez town but also died on the way.

The three are the 14th fatalities in motorcycle-related mishaps in Quezon this August.
