CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro — The Occidental Mindoro provincial government has declared suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools, and work in government and private offices on Tuesday, Aug. 29, due to the threat of Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola).
Governor Eduardo Gadiano issued Executive Order No. 44 which mandated the suspension of classes and work. A copy of the order was posted on the governor’s social media page.
The order said that on Aug. 28, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) released three consecutive “red” rainfall warnings in the province.
“Its effects are manifesting, under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or heavily susceptible to these hazards as identified in the hazard maps,” the EO 44 said.
But agencies whose functions are directly involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response and those performing other vital services are not covered by the order.
