MANILA, Philippines — Senator JV Ejercito on Monday said the retired policeman who pulled out and cocked a handgun during a road altercation with a cyclist in Quezon City should still be charged of grave threats.

The retired policeman was identified by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) as Willy Gonzales, 63.

“What happened between the ex-policeman and the cyclist’s settlement is between them. But what is unforgivable is drawing a gun against a helpless, unarmed cyclist. The ex-cop should still be charged for grave threats, but unfortunately, the cyclist seems to have been intimidated,” said Ejercito.

The lawmaker, who branded himself as a cyclist, said he will not let Gonzales’ act pass.

“As a cyclist, I will not let this pass. Hindi dapat makalusot ang mga sigang pulis! Hindi na ‘yan uso! Dapat makasuhan din ito sa korte at ipakulong nang hindi na ito tularan!” he said.

(Arrogant police officers should not get away! That’s not trendy anymore! He should also be charged in court and put in jail so that his actions should not be imitated!)

According to Ejercito, if Gonzales is still connected with the government, the former police officer should be charged administratively for his unacceptable and improper behavior.

The Philippine National Police earlier announced that it revoked Gonzales’ gun licenses and permits.
