MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Taguig on Tuesday began its distribution of school packages for students and offered scholarships to the 14 public schools that were transferred from Makati to Taguig following the ruling of the Supreme Court.

The public schools were located in the Embo barangays — a collective term for Barangays Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Rizal, Northside and Southside.

According to the Taguig government, Mayor Lani Cayetano led the distribution of students’ necessities, giving out school packages that include a bag, daily and PE uniforms, socks, black shoes, rubber shoes and a complete set of basic school supplies depending on their grade level.

Daycare and kindergarten students, on the other hand, also received emergency contact cards, health kit containing bags, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand towel, and alcohol spray.

“More than the material things na itu-turn over, ang presence po natin ngayon ay testament sa kahandaan nating lahat to really support our learners, to really support their dreams and aspirations in life, and to do our best to show them that we are ready to cooperate—handa tayong magkaisa pag ang pinag-usapan ay ang kanilang future,” said Cayetano.

(More than the material things that will be turned over, our presence today is a testament to the readiness of all of us to really support our learners, to really support their dreams and aspirations in life, and to do our best to show them that we are ready to cooperate—we are ready to unite when what is discussed is their future.)

Simultaneous distribution of school supplies were held in all Embo schools, as well as select schools in the City’s first and second districts, with distribution set to continue until all students have received their school packages.

Scholarship program for Embo barangays launched

Furthermore, Taguig City also launched at Pitogo High School on Tuesday the Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-need (LANI) Scholarship Program for students in Embo barangays.

The City will be offering scholarships not only to Senior High School graduates, but to all qualified residents of the city’s 10 new barangays.

The following students can apply for the scholarships:

Meanwhile, public and private school teachers in Taguig, barangay, city and national government employees — including uniformed personnel based in Taguig — taking up their Masters’ and Doctoral Degrees may avail of P18,000 to P60,000/year depending on the school category.

A P50,000 Thesis and Dissertation Grant is also available for these students.

The Taguig city government then assured Embo citizens that residency or registration requirements will not be an issue as Taguig will recognize the residency and registration in their respective Embo barangays as valid and sufficient compliance.
