MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has increased the honoraria for poll workers for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) to P9,000 and 10,000.
Comelec chairman George Garcia said the poll body increased the allowances and benefits of the chairman of the electoral board (EB) from P6,000 to P10,000, while its members from P5,000 to P9,000.
“Tinaasan po namin base po sa aming naipon o sa aming natipid sa procurement namin,” Garcia told reporters in an ambush interview.
(We increased it based on what we saved or what was left from our procurement.)
Moreover, the Comelec chief said an additional P2,000 would be given to poll workers where a plebiscite will take place, such as San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan, as well as those in the cities of Muntinlupa and Naga — where early voting hours on October 30 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities.
Aside from these, the commission would also provide death benefits worth P500,000 to families of poll workers who died due to election-related risks and medical assistance of P200,000 for those who sustained injuries or illness in the performance of their duties.
During an earlier briefing, Comelec Deputy Executive Director for Operations Atty. Rafael Olaño presented that there are about 67,839,776 registered voters at the barangay level and 23,254,313 at the SK level, bringing the total to 91,094,089.
