2 killed in shootout with Manila police

Two were killed while three others were injured following a shootout that ensued between two security guards and police officers in Manila on Friday night.

According to a report from the Manila Police District (MPD), police officers Eugene Tonizul, Bong Alvin Olayres, Christoren Almachar, Raymark Laurena and Raymond Ocampo were manning a checkpoint at the corner of Rizal Avenue and Soler Street at around 9:50 p.m. when they spotted a motorcycle with tampered license plates.

Tonizul flagged down security guards Wilfredo Marquez Jr. and Bobby Alconera, who were onboard the motorcycle and pointed at the license plate numbers, which were covered with electrical tape.

The two security guards allegedly “became unruly and uncooperative,” which led to a firefight between two parties.The police report stated that Laurena sustained a gunshot wound in the right eye while Ocampo was hit in the upper left ear.

A bystander identified as Rosemarie Depaudhon was hit by a stray bullet during the firefight, killing her instantly.

The two security guards were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, but Marquez later died from his wounds.

Recovered from the area were pistols, magazines and live ammunition. INQ
