Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero

Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero opposes reinstating the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program for college students, saying it is insufficient to equip or train Filipinos to defend the country. During Wednesday’s plenary session, August 9, 2023, Escudero, who interpellated Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Senate Bill No. 2034, cast doubt that bringing back the ROTC and replacing the National Service Training Program (NSTP) will equip the Filipinos to defend and fight for the country. MANILA, Philippines — Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero finally addressed some of the questions intriguing netizens about his new appearance on Wednesday.

For one, Escudero clarified he is just the assistant of his wife, fashion icon and actress Heart Evangelista, and is not part of any fashion week.

“Ako lang yung alalay sa likod ng asawa ko tuwing my fashion week at libre at bakante ako. Ako yung taga-laba, taga-luto taga-linis, taga-tahi pag may kailangang tahiin,” he said  in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel.

(I’m just my wife’s assistant whenever there’s a fashion week, and I’m free and available. I do the laundry, cooking, cleaning, and sewing when something needs to be sewn.)

“Minsan lang ako uma-awra-awra pero hindi palagi yun. Nakukumbinsi lang at napipilit,” the senator also said.

(I only occasionally dress up, but that’s not very often. I’ve just been persuaded to do it.)

Escudero was responding to a question about observations about a “new Chiz Escudero” after his wife posted social media photos of him during the recent Paris Fashion Week.

His new looks, particularly his well-groomed brows, also caught the attention of netizens.

Without directly addressing this, though, the senator talked about “longevity” in the same interview.

“Tumatanda tayo (We’re getting old), and our objective should be longevity—not really to look good…”  he said.

“Longevity should be the objective,” Escudero added.
