LTFRB clarifies: P1 rush hour fare hike proposal set aside, not rejected
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Tuesday clarified that the proposed P1 rush hour fare increase by some transport groups was set aside and not rejected.
According to LTFRB, it is currently studying a new petition for a P2 fare increase for jeepneys amid the steady rise in the prices of petroleum products.
“We would like to clarify that the first petition filed by some transport groups regarding the P1 rush hour fare hike has not been rejected but rather set aside right after a new petition for a P2 fare increase was filed,” the agency said.
“The LTFRB Board will still, however, resolve the first petition while prioritizing the most recent one filed due to oil price hike,” it added.
Among the groups that submitted a letter proposing the P2 fare hike were Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP), Pagkakaisa ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston), Stop & Go Transport Coalition Inc., and the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Fejodap).
