THE planned Cebu City Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System, subject of a feasibility study supported by the World Bank, is now accessible on the worldwide web through its site www.cebucitybrtproject.info and its facebook page www.facebook.com/CebuCityBRT.
Integrated Transport Planning Ltd., the consulting firm undertaking the study in coordination with the City of Cebu, said the Cebu City BRT’s presence on the web creates a forum for stakeholders to participate in the evolution of the system. Colin Brader, project team leader, adds, “Being on the web is just one of the many ways by which the design and study teams bring everyone’s aspirations and ideas together for consideration. After all, the BRT is about improving the lives of as many as it can possibly touch.”
The BRT is being proposed for funding by the Cebu City government and the Department of Transportation and Communication.
Brader said the results of consultations with various stakeholder groups, including special sectoral interests, point towards “an aspiration for an affordable, fast, clean, safe and comfortable mode of transportation.”
The BRT in Cebu will be the country’s first such system. It is an important step in developing the Green City concept and is developing an approach that can be passed on to other cities in the country.
New Pag-ibig loan policy
THE Pag-IBIG Fund announced the new policy for the standard and uniform processing of housing and short-term loan applications of government employees that started last April 18.
For short-term loan (STL) purposes and for housing loan (HL) borrowers who will be paying their HL amortization through salary deduction, the net take home pay of government employees must not fall below P5,000, after deductions of loan applied for and other obligations.

Japan scholarship
THE Japanese Embassy is accepting scholarship applications for the 2013 research, undergraduate and special training categories.
Applicants for the undergraduate category should be 17 to 21 years old, have 12 years of formal education, good academic standing and five years of study in social sciences, humanities and natural sciences.
For the research category, applicants should be under 35 years old, have 16 years of formal education, clear and feasible research proposal, good academic standing and one and one-half to five years of study in social sciences, humanities and natural sciences.
For the special training category, applicants should be 17 to 21 years old, have 12 years of formal education, good academic standing and three years of study in civil engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, telecom, nutrition, infant education, secretarial studies, hotel management, tourism, fashion, dress making, design and photography.
The scholarship is open to all Filipino citizens who qualified the requirements.
Application forms are available at the Japan lnformation and Culture Center Library in Manila and the consular offices of Japan in Cebu City and Davao or may be downloaded from the embassy website www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp.
The deadline for submission of applicatlon is on Mav 28.
Free scholarship consultations are held at the library of the Embassy of Japan every Friday at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2-4:30 p.m.
