The wife of Ernesto Zambo assured the police that she will cooperate in the investigation in relation to the death of her husband.
Zambo, 66, died of a gunshot wound in the stomach after his wife accidentally shot him with an air gun while they hunted for birds inside their compound in barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City, about 5 p.m. last Saturday.
The wife went to the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) yesterday to give the assurance.
Tita maintained that the shooting was an accident, said Insp. Ramil Morpos.
Ernesto was the uncle of Provincial Board member Ian Zambo and Toledo City Vice Mayor Daidee Zambo.
Morpos said Tita assured that she will fully cooperate in the investigation once her husband is laid to rest on Sunday.
The wife said she was loading the air gun with a pellet when it went off, hitting Ernesto in the stomach.
Ernesto was brought to the hospital but died Sunday dawn.
Morpos said Ernesto was fond of hunting birds in the compound where they were a lot of fruit trees.
Morpos said the air gun was turned over to the crime laboratory of the Cebu City Police Office for ballistic examination to determine if the bullet used was a pellet or a bullet for .22 revolver.
An air gun can be converted into a .22 revolver and a bullet for a .22 revolver can also be used for air gun, said Morpos.
Cebu Daily News visited the compound yesterday where the wake is held but no relative showed up for comment./CORRESPONDENT FE MARIE D. DUMABOC
