PSA says PhilIDs found in garbage an ‘isolated case’ | INQToday

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Thursday said that the reported discovery of Philippine Identification Cards (PhilIDs) in a garbage area in Negros Occidental was an “isolated case” already being investigated by the agency.

The agency’s pronouncement was about a circulating video on social media taken in Barangay Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, where several PhillIDs were found among trash.

The video went viral on social media as early as mid-July.

According to the PSA, it is investigating the reports in collaboration with barangay officials and the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost).

“The agency assures the public that this is an isolated case. The privacy and security of the data of PhilSys-registered persons is of the highest priority, and strict protocols in the distribution of PhilIDs and ePhilIDs have been in place since the beginning of its distribution,” the PSA said in a statement.

Both the PSA and the PHLPost then committed to addressing any gaps found in the delivery system to ensure that the incident would not happen again.
