Quezon City cops get 60 motorcycles to boost drive vs carjacking

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District received on Monday 60 motorcycles to boost its efforts against carjacking and crimes committed by persons on motorbikes.

Supt. Nestor Abalos, chief of the District Logistics Division, said the motorcycles came from the city government.

“With the addition of more new motorcycles, we can better address the continued problems of riding in tandem and [carjacking],” the official said.

Abalos explained that patrolling policemen have a better chance of running after criminals because of improved mobility.

Present during the turnovers were Abalos, city mayor Herbert Bautista and the QCPD director, Chief Supt. Mario de la Vega.

Abalos said the QCPD would decide how to distribute the new motorcycles, adding that the priority would be the Tactical Motorcycle Riders under the District Anti-Carnapping Unit.

Other units to receive the brand new motorcycles are the Traffic Enforcement Unit and the 12 police stations.

Before the arrival of the new motorcycles, the QCPD had a total of 104 motorcycles mostly assigned to the TEU and 24 units with the TMR.
