4 suspected illegal loggers fall in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — Police arrested on Monday four suspected illegal loggers and seized more than P27,000 worth of undocumented round logs in Atimonan town in Quezon province on Monday.

Anti-illegal logging operatives caught around 8 p.m. Ramil Alvarez, Jose Escullar, Jimmy Abante, and Jay Abante while loading 79 pieces of mahogany round logs into a truck in Barangay Talaba, the Quezon police reported on Tuesday, August 8.

The seized lumber measuring 678.4 board feet (1.6 cubic meters) was found without proper documents from the authorities.

Police said the seized illegal lumber was worth P27,120 in the underground market.

The suspects were arrested and detained at the local police station.

The reported owner of the seized lumber, Edgardo Jordan, a resident of the locality, remains at large.

The seized lumber will be turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office for proper disposition.
