MANILA, Philippines — The Governors’ Caucus of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) raised its standards for the regional government’s Council of Leaders under its new head, Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim.
The BGC issued this statement on Monday as it welcomed the first meeting last Aug. 9 of the Council of Leaders, which is an advisory body.
According to the caucus, five elected governors of the BARMM, along with the Council of Leaders, also conducted a Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting last June, during which they submitted their manifesto and open letter to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The joint position papers are pushing the advisory body to conduct meetings at least quarterly pursuant to its mandate under the Bangsamoro Organic Law, which states that it should advise the chief minister on governance-related matters in the region.
The governors likewise urged the council to do the following:
- include peace and order issues leading to the October 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections
- rationalize and harmonize BARMM and LGU planning
- aim for better coordination between regional ministries and LGUs in the implementation of regional projects in LGUs
- ensure transparent, accountable, and efficient implementation of regional projects
