MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to prevail in western parts of Luzon on Monday due to the effects of southwest monsoon or “habagat,” while the rest of the country would experience generally fair weather, according to the state weather bureau.

In a weather bulletin issued at 4 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said habagat will continue to affect the western section of Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms would be experienced in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, and Benguet, with possible flooding and landslides.

On the other hand, Metro Manila and the rest of the country would experience fair weather or partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the combined effects of habagat and localized thunderstorms.

This prompted the state weather bureau to retain the gale warning in the seaboards of Batanes, the northern coast of Ilocos Norte, and the northern coast of Cagayan, including Babuyan Island.

Earlier, Pagasa said it did not monitor any weather disturbance or low-pressure area inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility that would affect the country in the coming days.
