DILG chief instructs BFP, Manila gov’t to probe electric poles collapse in Binondo
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Manila government to investigate why several electric posts collapsed in Binondo earlier Thursday.
Based on the Manila Public Information Office’s (PIO) report, seven posts collapsed around 1 p.m. along Ongpin Street in Binondo, injuring three people and damaging eight vehicles.

DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. said BFP and the city government are now on the site and were instructed to coordinate with the private electric company that owns the electric posts.
Abalos said they would provide “appropriate assistance to the affected individuals and help in clearing out the area.”
Article continues after this advertisementHe likewise encouraged other local chief executives “to inspect electric posts, construction sites, billboards, and other similar installations” in their respective cities to avoid similar incidents from happening again during inclement weather.
Article continues after this advertisement“A memorandum circular will be issued regarding the matter to ensure compliance and prompt action,” DILG said in a statement.
