Bright Academy netters advance
BRIGHT Academy’s tennis players advanced to the next round of the 5th leg of the Smart Head Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit 2012 yesterday at the Cebu International Tennis Centre Inc. in Laray, Consolacion.
Zethley Mae Alferez grabbed an automatic entry into the semifinal round of the girls 14 after she draw a bye. She will go up against Cherry Mae Toledo for a chance at the title.
The other semifinal match will have Kristine Renee Salimbangon, also an automatic semifinalists, going up against Elisse Castro.
Toledo clinched her semifinals ticket by defeating Shane Villareal, 6-1, 6-2, while Castro dismissed Asesa Medida, 5-7, 6-2, 10-2.
The other Bright Academy girls, Jana Pages and Alyssa Mae Bornia, are just waiting for their semifinal opponents in the girls 16 as they have both hurdled past their quarterfinal assignments.
Pages routed Nathalie Alipe, 6-2, 6-0, while Bornia thrashed Edel Donaire, 6-2, 6-1.

In the boys division, Carlo Balondo and Heart Sotto entered the quarterfinals in different situations. Balondo did not have to sweat it out in the court as his opponent did not show up while Sotto had to contend with Zen Acandar, 6-4, 6-1.
Quartefinalists in the boys 14 are Fernando Argueles, Earl Cagampang, Slame Sotto and Joshua Escobia.
Argueles outsmarted Von Tudtod, 6-2, 6-0, Cagampang demolished Peter Cantillan, 6-0, 6-1, Sotto toyed with Randolf Fernandez, 6-1, 6-2, while Escobia annihilated Kieffer Adriato, 6-0, 6 -3.
Advancing to the second round in the boys 16 were Marco Florido, who accomplished a 7-5, 6-1, dismissal of Francis Pepito, and Roy Cortez, who outsmarted Dave Toledo, 6-4, 6-4.
Seeing action in the boys 18 quarterfinals are Edward Alumina, Rodolfo Barquin and Ruen Andrew Hibionada.
The semifinals of the unisex 10-under will have John Ternate going up against Eric Longakit and Gabriel Trazo facing Nonito Pepito. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
